NSSF Membership Surges to Over 2.2 Million in First Half of 2024

Phnom Penh, July 10, 2024* — As of June 30, 2024, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has seen its membership surpass 2.2 million, reaching a total of 2,229,522 members. This was confirmed by Kata Un, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry.

Kata Un highlighted the significant growth in the NSSF membership, which includes workers, public officials, former civil servants, veterans, voluntary contributors, and self-employed individuals. This increase indicates a growing trust and understanding among the public regarding the benefits of the NSSF.

As of the first half of 2024, the NSSF's health care sector boasts over 2.2 million members. This includes more than 1.56 million workers, over 430,000 civil servants, former civil servants, and veterans, approximately 170,000 self-employed individuals, and over 5,600 dependents.

In the pension sector, the NSSF has registered a total of 21,288 mandatory factories, with more than 1.56 million active workers and nearly 5,000 voluntary workers. During the first six months of 2024, the pension department registered new members from 3,013 mandatory factories, nearly 130,000 workers, and 941 voluntary workers.

The Occupational Risk Division of the NSSF now includes over 1.8 million members. This consists of more than 1.56 million workers and over 24,600 public servants. Additionally, the division provides health care through the health equity fund system for over 13,600 workers in the economic sector.

Kata Un also noted that since Prime Minister Hun Manet announced the implementation of the Voluntary Health Care Social Security Regime on November 14, 2023, the Ministry's working group has actively promoted this initiative across the country. Their efforts include campaigns in factories, enterprises, homes, markets, and towns, as well as on social media platforms like Facebook, Telegram, YouTube, TikTok, and through influencers and celebrities.

The NSSF also offers membership benefits for children. These benefits include free medical treatment and care at all CUP partner hospitals, both public and private, nationwide. In the unfortunate event of a child's death, the NSSF provides cremation allowances. This initiative aims to improve children's health and contribute to developing potential future human resources.

"The implementation of the social security system for child health care demonstrates our commitment to the well-being of children and enhancing their health, which is essential for the future of our nation," Kata Un emphasized.
